The exhibition
Bizarre. Novelty and extravagance in 18th century European silks will be open until March 31, 2019 at the exhibition rooms of Villa Sucota in dialogue with the works of Stefano Arienti.
The exhibition is curated by Maddalena Terragni in collaboration with Gregorio Magnani and is at FREE ADMISSION.
HISTORY
The European weavers – at the turn of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century – drawing on all the cultural references that come from the East create decorative motifs different from the usual, mixing them freely and without bothering to produce representations faithful to reality.
This involves challenging, abstract designs, full of extravagance and refinement of the decorations.
A free approach of weavers, common to eighteenth-century productions and contemporary, is reiterated and emphasized by Stefano Arienti’s site-specific intervention.
OPENING TIME
From Monday to Friday: 10 am-1 pm and 3 pm-6 pm
Sunday: 2-6 pm (last admission 5.30 pm)
