Also this year the Festa di Sant’ Antonio will take place in honor of the most revered Saint of winter in the towns of Barni, Cantù and Erba.

Saint Antonio, a snow merchant, is the Saint worshiped by peasants as protector of animals and in general of the whole agricultural world. He is also one of the most revered saints in Lombardy and beyond, where the custom wants to celebrate with a bonfire, a propitiatory fire for the coming season.

FESTA SANT’ANTONIO January 20, 2019 in Barni (CO) in Vallassina

The Municipality of Barni, in the province of Como, is preparing for the peasant festival in honor of the Saint thanks to the help of volunteers and parishioners, which will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Parish Church.

Program of the Festival:

10:00 am: Solemn Mass with Benediction of Salt, tractors and agricultural vehicles (the meeting point for tractors is from 9:45 in Piazza Pio XI).
11:00 am: Incanto di Sant’Antonio with traditional auction of goods offered by parishioners on the churchyard (the gifts to be enchanted must be left on the altar of St. Anthony in the church, while the goods available must be brought on Sunday The proceeds will go to the Parish which is going beyond the current expenses for the restoration of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
12:30 pm: Lunch at the Alpini premises cooked by the chef Ferruccio Castelli (including appetizer, polenta and veal morsels, desserts, water, wine and coffee at the cost of: € 15 adults, € 8 up to 12 years, free children up to 6 years).
3:00 pm: Tombola.
At 4.30 pm: Bonfire of Sant’Antonio on the square of the Alpine headquarters.

FESTA SANT’ANTONIO January 17, 2019 in Cantù (CO)

Also the municipality of Cantù in the province of Como celebrates Saint Anthony with a religious feast, from the ancient customs, the day Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Romanesque-Gothic church that takes the name of the Saint.

Program:

9:00 am: celebration of Holy Mass in the church of Sant’Antonio. Throughout the day there will be a blessing with the relic of the Saint.
10:30 am: concelebration of Holy Mass by native priests.
5.30 pm: recitation of the Vesperi.
From 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm: in the afternoon there will be the blessing of cars and animals.
6:00 pm: third celebration of Holy Mass in the church of Sant’Antonio animated by the Choir of San Teodoro.
8.30 pm: fourth celebration of Holy Mass concelebrated by the priests of the Pastoral Community and animated by the Youth Group. At the end of this ceremony the “La Cattolica” Musical Corps will play.
In the evening will follow the traditional bonfire and the prize draw at the S. Antonio salon.

FIERA SANT’ANTONIO 17 and 20 January in Erba (CO)

On Thursday 17 January and Sunday 20 January 2019 in the municipality of Erba Superiore, in the province of Como, the Fair will take place to celebrate the Saint.

Program Thursday, January 17:

9:00 am: opening of the church.
10:00 am: Traditional fair with stalls and amusement park. Celebration of Holy Mass and blessing of bread and salt.
2.30 pm: devotion and kiss of the relic.
5:00 pm: celebration of the Holy Mass.
8.30 pm: Song of Compline.
9.00 pm: traditional “Falò del Purcel”.

Program on Sunday, January 20th:

9:00 am: Stalls and amusement park.
10.00 am: celebration of the Solemn Mass, the processional raising of the confraternities with departure from the church of S. Marta, blessing of bread and salt, followed by parade and blessing of the tractors organized by the club Auto Amarcord Erba.
2.30 pm: Devotions and kiss of the relic.
5:00 pm: Holy Mass at the end of the celebrations.
