Bonfire scheduled for Giubiana and Gineè in the province of Como

January is at the dripping point and as always, as usual, the last days (often on Thursdays and Fridays) large bonfires are lit in the squares and the Giubiana or Gineè, puppets covered with cloth and straw, are burned.

Let’s see together where these bonfires are held to greet the winter…

CANTU’ – BURNING OF THE JUBIANA

Thursday 30 January 2020 at 21:00 – Traditional fire of the Giubiana in Piazza Garibaldi organized by Pro Loco for Cantù and the Municipality of Cantù.
Before the burning parade with historical costumes: on a cart dragged by hand and escorted by armigers, friars and an executioner is loaded a woman’s mannequin exposed days before in a room in Via Dante, to a hypothetical public ludibrio.
During the procession, which then reaches the town hall and then the central square for the stake, the sentence is also read out.

CANZO – BURNING OF THE JUBIANA

Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 20.30 the Association Cumpagnia di Nost organizes the evening of the Giubiana. Court, trial and bonfire.

ORSENIGO – BURNING OF THE GIUBIANA

Thursday, January 30 at 19.40 at the Park of Liegro. to follow will be offered the risotto with Luganega to all, offered by the association elderly and pensioners. In case of bad weather the event is moved Saturday, February 1. The event is sponsored by the Municipality.

VALBRONA – GINEE’ BURNING

On Friday 31 January 2020 at 8.3 pm the Qui De Maisan Association will organize the Rogo del Gineè, a puppet that will be burned after the procession through the streets of the village.
Mulled wine, hot tea and sweets for everyone!

ROGEN – BURNING OF THE GIUBIANA

Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 19.30 at the Oratory of Rogeno will be held the Rogo della Giubiana. Possibility to dine with risotto with luganiga and pork shank.

Saturday, February 1, 2020 there will be the ROGO DELLA GIUBIANA in Carcano di Albavilla (CO) organized by the Group “I Paisan”, under the patronage of the municipality of Albavilla.
